Flexatarianism - Life choices get more bizarre
If you are like me, you are probably thinking life was just a lot easier in the past when people invited you over for dinner, or when you were on a flight the attendant asked: Veg or Non-Veg? Not any more.
· Get stronger and toned without lifting weights?
Amongst the mind-boggling range of food and life choices now available, I discovered today the existence of The Flexitarian'. This appears to refer to a person who is not quite vegetarian but appears to have chosen to eat less meat. Hang on- so that's everyone who is NOT vegetarian (!) because 'less' is a relative term.
Despite my initial disdain, I have decided there is some weight behind this idea. Mainly since it suggests that people who choose to be flexatarians have had some realisation, usually on moral, health or environmental grounds that either they or the planet may benefit from more plant-based foods. So far, so good. In fact I have some solid evidence from my London social circle that shows they were already 'on-trend' before this term was coined. Ahead of the times we are.....Food is a personal choice after all and the consequences, good or bad are likely to be equally personal.
However, it is mid-boggling that flexitarian-ism can now extend into a full lifestyle choice. Presumably guaranteed to jettison one into nirvana. One book on the flexatarian way of life purports:

Have you ever wanted to?
· Get stronger and toned without lifting weights?
· Get flexible without being a ballerina?
· Lose weight without going on a diet?
· Have constant energy, yet know how to relax
· Be able to bring yourself back to balance?
· Have a healthy, happy lifestyle with no dogma?
· Find a steady and focused mind?
· Stay calm and cool no matter what?
Hell yes! Bring it On! Who would say no to any of that?
Lurking though, in the inner depths of my cynical mind, is that old adage : If it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't (i.e. is not true). Somehow I don't think this will put a brake on the wheels of the flexatarian movement. Sigh, at least the English dictionary is now richer by one word.
